American Legion
New Hampshire Boys State

American Legion Boys State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for U.S. high school students. The week-long program gathers young men from across the state to participate in the operation of local, county, and state government. American Legion Auxiliary sponsors a separate but similar program for young women called Girls State.

Boys State was a powerful learning experience for me and provided a hands-on opportunity to learn how government works. It built my confidence and allowed me to practice leadership in a way unlike any other organization.

Why Boys State?

Boys State is "a week that shapes a lifetime." Students in the program build lifelong connections, interact with public servants, including the governor, and learn from world-class mentors. Alumni go on to attend some of the most prestigious institutions across the country, from the Ivy League to the service academies and more. Boys Staters continue to make differences as leaders in their families and communities. The experience inspires a commitment to life-long service, strength of character, and moral courage.
